Hey Folks.. just shot some more video with the 7D of me getting tattooed by the Rev. Matt Ellis from sevencrownstattoo.com!
Nuit Blanche
Despite feeling like the installations were a little lack luster, well those that I managed to see, I did have fun~ I ended up riding around the city with my friend Santiago from 9:30 pm till just before 4am when we ran into the Rivoli for a drink before close. UM THEY RAN OUT OF MOST BEERS .. we had stella light … boo that.
This year NuitBlanche was different than every other year I’ve been. First off, I’ve never seen so many people on queen street in my life.. it was insane . I think the overload, the sheer assault on the senses being surrounded by so many people kinda made me loose focus of the art and I became much more aware of the people.
Here are some of the photos from the night, I started shooting the night with my fixed 50mm 1.8, brought out my 24-70 a little later and took a couple shots with my flash on but i really wanted to play with ambient only. There is something about natural light that is becoming more and more intriguing to me as I get more confident with my camera. I also think I took more pictures of bikes around the city including mine (parked in front of the no parking sign) than I did of actual instillation’s!.. lol

Setting the Stage.
And it begins… This is the first entry of my blog, of my road to discovering photography.
I have been shooting for a few years (about 3 years since I got my first SLR) it’s defiantly been a scary, yet inspiring and eventful experience and I still get nervous as hell before I shoot. But this journey, this winding road full of twists turns, and hidden paths it’s teaching me a lot about people, life, overcoming adversity and even more about myself, who I am, what I want and what I’m willing to do to get it.
Even though I’ve been very ambitious about my journey into photography making a decent living doing it still seems far away. I have a part time job as a consultant/developer in new media which pays the bills and I enjoy it but I would rather spend all my time taking photographs and playing with my Alien Bees (great lights for those who are getting started and don’t have $10,000 – $20,000 to spend on a Speedotron or Profoto setup).
I started assisting a photographer about 5 years ago, I’ve been doing post/retouching for a lot longer than shooting so I brought a strong sense of composition and lighting to the table but execution and technical know-how that, I had to learn and am still just beginning to understand the scope of whats possible if you push yourself.

Weather it’s a soft beautiful gaze, or a misty dew filled flower being kissed by the morning sun.. Photography is an art and it’s all about light, understanding how it works and how to use it to tell the story you want told.
